King Tide Tracker: Better Decisions Come from Better Data

King tides are the highest tides of the year. In South Florida they arrive in the fall, when the water is warmest and a new or full moon lines up with the moon’s closest pass to Earth. They also keep running higher than NOAA’s tide predictions. During the fall peaks of 2025 and 2026, king tides at Southeast Florida’s tide gauges ran about a foot above predicted. On Oct. 28, 2026, the water at Port Everglades ran 1.57 ft above NOAA’s prediction.

Brizaga’s King Tide Tracker narrows that gap. It uses live atmospheric and oceanographic data to forecast flood tides up to a week in advance, so cities can prepare before the water arrives. It can be customized to send early alerts to residents and staff, so everyone knows when to expect flooding and what to do about it.

Brizaga collects water levels from NOAA tide gauges every six minutes. The forecast starts with NOAA’s tide predictions, then adds historic water levels and a station-customized algorithm built on NOAA’s GFS wind and pressure forecasts. The result: a more accurate 7-day flood-tide outlook, tuned to each gauge.

Key Features of the King Tide Tracker

  • 7-day flood-tide outlook: forecasts up to a week ahead at tide gauges across Florida
  • Neighborhood alerts: timed to each forecast flood tide, in residents’ languages, under your city’s name
  • Asset-by-asset thresholds: so crews mobilize where support is needed most
  • Resident photo reports: mapped by street and tide level, used for validation and calibration
  • Optional local gauges or sensors: calibrated to your flood levels
  • Season report: to support Community Rating System outreach and resilience grant applications, and improve next year’s response
