Project Overview
A Bold Vision for Recreation: The Fort’s $30M Public-Private Partnership
My Park Initiative (MPI) engaged Brizaga to serve as the Owner’s Representative for the development of The Fort, an 11-acre, $30 million multi-purpose project. This transformative initiative included the relocation of a sargassum composting operation and the establishment of a new headquarters for the Parks and Recreation Division. Brizaga managed the project lifecycle from initial concept development through construction, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations, budget constraints, and the city’s long-term planning objectives. The project aligns with Fort Lauderdale’s priorities, emphasizing sustainability and community engagement. With Brizaga’s help, MPI proposed a public-private partnership (P3) model, constructing a $30M development at no cost to the city.
The initiative included a redevelopment plant with the creation of 40+ pickleball courts, training centers, a clubhouse, a lakefront promenade, and associated amenities like bocce courts and a lake house restaurant. Community benefits included enhancement of access to recreational facilities, offering free lessons, resident discounts, and inclusive programs for youth and seniors. It also aimed to revitalize the park’s identity and usabilitys.

OUR ROLE
Brizaga developed initial concept plans and layouts and assembled and submitted a comprehensive Public-Private Partnership (P3) application to the City of Fort Lauderdale. Brizaga coordinated with design consultants to produce a cohesive set of plans that successfully navigated the City’s Development Review Committee (DRC) process, including the resolution of floodplain conflicts and coordination with regulatory agencies, including the Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD). During the construction phase, Brizaga worked closely with the General Contractor to manage activities across the 11-acre site.
