TURNING THE TIDE ON HOLLYWOOD SHORELINES: A PHASED APPROACH TO WATERFRONT RESILIENCE
The City of Hollywood’s Tidal Flooding Mitigation & Shoreline Protection Project is a multi-phase effort to address chronic tidal flooding along key public shoreline areas, including North Lake, South Lake, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Funded in part through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Resilient Florida Program, the project is designed to bring both immediate relief and long-term resilience to vulnerable neighborhoods. The City assembled a specialized consultant team—Brizaga, Chen Moore & Associates, and Cummins Cederberg—to lead this effort. The team integrates coastal engineering, civil design, permitting, and public engagement expertise to deliver a comprehensive and community-focused solution. The project is structured to move in phases, with design and permitting advancing across more 22 identified shoreline segments.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
- Performing field assessments and tidal modeling to guide flood barrier elevations and design
- Designing seawalls, living shorelines, and hybrid solutions that reflect site-specific needs

OUR ROLE
This project represents a proactive and scalable approach to tidal flooding—prioritizing public safety, infrastructure resilience, and community benefit. The team has developed tailored shoreline protection strategies that balance structural performance with environmental sensitivity and aesthetics. Public coordination efforts have helped build community support, while close agency coordination ensures regulatory alignment. As permitting progresses, the City is preparing for construction at priority sites, laying the groundwork for one of South Florida’s most comprehensive tidal resilience initiatives to date.
