Science & Outreach Associate
Maria Del Mar, known as Mari to the Brizaga team, is studying Sustainability and the Environment, and Natural & Applied Sciences at Florida International University. Before joining Brizaga, Maria Del Mar interned at the Biscayne Bay Marine Health Coalition coordinating the Biscayne Bay Marine Health Summit where key stakeholders in the field of sustainability collaborate in an effort to identify practices to reduce the amount of pollution contaminating the Biscayne Bay. In 2020, Maria Del Mar worked on a series of citizen science and environmental education programs on topics such as organic and solid waste management, water pollution and conservation, urban forestry, and other general environmental issues including sea level rise, and extreme heat for Miami Dade County and the Sea Level Solution Center in the Institute of Environment at FIU.
As a Science & Outreach Associate, Maria Del Mar is responsible for supporting the Science and Outreach team coordinating community outreach programs and developing science communications and public-facing content.
Her passion to raise awareness to protect our ecosystem comes from her curiosity in understanding the natural world as it tends to inspire her artsy endeavors. In her spare time, she enjoys making and sharing Spotify playlists, and attending art and live music events.
