@Maria Del Mar Trejos

Maria Del Mar, also known as Mari to the Brizaga team, is responsible for supporting the outreach team, coordinating community outreach programs, developing outreach pathways with a specific focus on climate resilience, and developing science communications for public-facing content.

She holds a degree in Sustainability and the Environment and in Natural & Applied Sciences from Florida International University. Before joining Brizaga, Maria Del Mar interned for the Biscayne Bay Marine Health Coalition coordinating the Biscayne Bay Marine Health Summit, where key stakeholders and climate resilience leaders collaborate in an effort to reduce the contamination of the Biscayne Bay and identify practices to protect the local environment. In 2020, Mari worked on a series of citizen science and environmental education programs for Miami Dade County and the Sea Level Solution Center at FIU covering waste management, water pollution and conservation, urban forestry, and other general environmental issues including sea level rise and extreme heat.

In her spare time, Mari enjoys cooking, painting, and attending art and live music events. Her passion for raising awareness to protect our ecosystem comes from her fascination with how the natural world works around us, as it tends to inspire her artsy endeavors.
