Resilience Specialist & Outreach Coordinator
Diego J. Cancel is a Resilience Specialist and Outreach Coordinator for Brizaga. During his career, Diego has worked as an environmental educator with a focus on underserved populations. He believes that all members of our communities must be a part of the solution and has worked to share important and relevant climate and environmental information to both, assist the community in addressing challenges and encourage environmental stewardship. Diego understands the importance and difficulties of funding resilience and sustainability projects firsthand. He has successfully written and implemented numerous grants focused on topics from recycling, energy & water efficiency, to providing items such as reusable bags and water-efficient showerheads to aid community members become more environmentally conscious.
Diego has been visiting South Florida for his entire life, and chose the area as his home to build his family. He is originally from Bayamón, Puerto Rico where he developed his passion for sustainability and the value of protecting and preserving the world’s beautiful flora, fauna, and natural resources. Diego graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Environmental Technologies & Management. Through this program, he was initially exposed to resilience and environmental education, leading him to his current position.
